CHAPTER 7.

At The Castle

Darne and his friends reached the castle around midday. The two security guards had smiled at Darne and opened the main gates. They watched Galen strangely, as they entered. He wondered if they knew Darne was bringing him along in the first place. They marched the horses onward, heading toward the castle. Some of the servants had emerged from the castle and greeted them. Again, they smiled at Darne but looked at him strangely.

Darne had dismounted, grabbing Galen by the waist, and bringing him down on the floor together with him. This startled Galen and he almost lost his balance, but Darne steadied him.

The servants took their horses and were now likely taking them to the stables.

“You okay?” Darne asked him.

Galen nodded and smiled a bit. One of the servants opened the huge front door of the castle and they all stepped through. Galen felt uneasy being in such grandeur that he swore he would faint any second, but Darne had a steady hand on his arm which eased his worries.

He was amazed at the great hall. There were furnishings of the finest quality, drapes that were three times thicker than the sheets in Darne’s own room, and beautiful crystal chandeliers that decorated the painted ceiling.

A servant stepped forward to them. “Do you wish to set your bags in your room, or would you like to see your parents first?” she asked the Prince. She was a thick, middle-aged woman with big breasts.

Zepherina, Nicholai, and Murjon stared at the Prince as though their silence would tell him what he should say to this servant.

“Juhrena, maybe you can take my bags, just place them in my room, and show my friends to the guest rooms so they can settle in,” Darne said to her casually.

She smiled at him and gave him a wink.

To Galen, this seemed weirder than the smile that most of them had given the Prince.

“I will go to my parents now. There’s not much to do around here anyway,” Darne said.

She took his bag as he held it out for her. She wrapped her hand around his hand and squeezed. Galen saw Nicholai smile as though he wanted to laugh, but was just keeping it all in.

“Oh, don’t say that. There are lots of things to do here,” the servant replied.

“Like what?” Galen cut in.

Galen saw Murjon turn his head in the other direction.

Darne had pulled away his hand from the servant. Somehow, he avoided Galen’s eyes. “Go, Juhrena!”

“Okay, my lord.” She grabbed Galen’s hand with her other hand and started pulling him away. “Come now, guys, the guest rooms are this way,” she said and began to pull Galen with her thick palms.

“Hey!” he screamed and yanked his arm away.

“Don’t you want to see your room for the while?” she asked him.

He turned around to face Darne and gave him a raised eyebrow. Darne said nothing.

He turned back and shouted at the servant, “I am not going!”

“Excuse me?” She mused at his anger.
